FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Angels are Soaring into ABC-Disney mail rooms by the Thousands  "Bring Luke's Angel Home!"

 Richmond, Virginia, July 24, 2007 -

Operation Genie's Angels [OGA], a fan-based organization, http://operationgeniesangels.angelfire.com, has flooded the ABC-Disney Studios in Los Angeles, California recently with thousands of angel themed items.  It is an all-out campaign to bring Daytime Emmy Award Winner, Genie Francis back to General Hospital where everyone wants her to be, it seems, except ABC.   The campaign began several weeks ago and originally focused on showing Brian Frons, President of ABC Daytime, Anne Sweeney, President, Disney-ABC Daytime,  and Jill Phelps, Executive Producer of General Hospital,  just how serious Genie's fans are in this effort.  For the last year, individual letters and phone calls have not garnered much effect on The Powers That Be at General Hospital, so, the fans have unified to make their voices heard.   The campaign has a simple message, and packs a positive punch: "Bring Luke's Angel Home!".   Postcards with angel stickers or angel stamps carry the message forward, and often have attached an angel item such as soap, candles, Angel Food Cake, Angel Hair Pasta, and figurines.  If it has an angel on it, chances are it will be heading to Los Angeles. To date, it is estimated that thousands of angel related items  have descended upon the ABC/GH mail rooms.  The significance of the angel has been Luke Spencer's 30-year reference regarding his beloved Laura as "his Angel."

Francis joined the cast of General Hospital `in 1976 as Laura Webber, and  was finally honored in June with her first Emmy, a respect that most fans believe has been long-overdue. Within a few years of her arrival to the General Hospital canvas, Francis along with her acting partner, Tony Geary, skyrocketed the show to number one and saved it from certain cancellation.  In a brilliant move by then, powerhouse Executive Producer, Gloria Monty, the duo was teamed together
and the Super Nova of super couples was born.  No pairing before or since has paralleled the popularity of this legendary couple.  In 1981, General Hospital was not only the  number one show in daytime, but surpassed many prime time shows in ratings as well.  Twenty-five years after the  wedding that, to this day, continues to hold record-ratings in daytime history, Luke and Laura can still bring fans clamoring to their televisions to witness  the magic they began creating almost three decades ago, as evidenced by Francis' brief return to GH last November.  Anthony Geary, in speaking about his leading lady, has stated "...there is so much unspoken material and love between us.  I adore her.  I adore her..."  Geary re-iterated his sentiment in a pre-Emmy interview when he said there was "much gold left to be mined" with the story of Luke and Laura.  Genie's Angels couldn't agree more.

Some might wonder why this all would matter or why such an effort would be made on behalf of a daytime character? The answer is simple: Genie Francis  is partly responsible for changing the way the soap-genre is viewed.   She has earned her place in the daytime history books as well as on this show.  Millions of fans who have been with her since the beginning of her portrayal of Laura Webber Baldwin Spencer feel a kinship with the character she created. We have laughed, cried and gone through  many seasons of change with her.  She is someone with whom the viewers can identify.  She is an everyday woman, wife and mother.  She makes us feel good.   Genie Francis is an inspiring and beloved daytime icon, who has 31 years of her blood, love, tears, and  sweat-equity
invested in this show.  She is loyal to ABC and brings a loyal fan-base along with her.  Not only does she want to return to General Hospital, but we want her back.

Kimberly Newborn, one of Genie's Angels, states. "General Hospital exists today because of Genie Francis, and she deserves to be back on the show."

Another of  Genie's Angels  added: "
Genie Francis is one of the few actresses who makes me want to find time in my busy schedule to watch her performances.  She continues to touch my heart in ways that surprise me. Genie and Tony Geary are true acting soulmates, and I'm selfish. I want more of their partnership before they decide they don't want to do this any longer."

Operation Genie's Angels is a group of committed fans in countless numbers, from all over the world, who have grown up with Genie Francis as she has matured and evolved into someone we view as a sister-friend.  Laura Spencer is simply the conduit through which she has reached us.  Suzette Pollard, Webmaster of Operation Genie's Angels,  sums it up this way, "Genie Francis is the heart and soul of GH. She is  the inner light that shines through to the spirit of  who Laura Spencer is,  and what the GH of old was all  about.  Her absence is a glaring reminder of the values that are no longer present."

For more than 30 years, Genie Francis has taken her fans  by the hand and taken us on an exciting, memorable and cherished ride.  She has our love, loyalty, respect and support.  We're not ready for that ride to be over just yet.
